In the markets of Tehuantepec, women have always worn their power as jewellery — ropes of gold coins, heavy coral necklaces, flowers braided into hair. Frida claimed this inheritance proudly, wearing the Tehuana dress not as costume but as manifesto. Deep ruby for the blood of matriarchs, cobalt lapis for the indigo sky over Oaxaca, and garnet for the dark devotion that outlasts every wound.
This piece is built in that spirit — bold, unapologetic color worn close to the throat, the way a flag is worn. The natural stones carry their own variation in tone and pattern, so no two strands fall exactly alike. Tiny glints of pyrite catch the light between each bead, like sparks struck off volcanic rock.
Details:
- Genuine carnelian, lapis lazuli, and garnet beads (approx. 10mm)
- Faceted pyrite spacer beads
- Strung on tiger tail wire for durability and structure
- Gold-tone spring ring clasp
- Approximate length: 18–19 inches
A necklace for anyone who has ever wanted to walk into a room the way Frida did — colour first, story written across the chest, no apology required.
