La Dos Fridas

Painted just after her divorce from Diego Rivera, Las Dos Fridas shows two versions of herself holding hands, their hearts exposed and connected by a single artery. Moonstone’s ethereal shimmer for the European side — pale, uncertain, exposed. Turquoise for the Mexican soul, whole and ancient. Rhodonite, the stone of the heart, threads between them as the artery that will not be cut.
